Air Jordan 9 "Baseball Cleats" (1994)
In 1993 Jordan retired, citing exhaustion and burnout from superstardom. In 1994 he made a surprise return to professional sport, signing a minor league baseball contract. During this basketball hiatus, the Air Jordan was reimagined as a baseball cleat (the Air 9). Its global-themed outsole represented Jordan’s worldwide influence, as he transcended even sporting immortality. In his new sport Jordan wore the Air 9s in the colorway of his Baseball team the Birmingham Barons.
