The Book of Benefactors
Erpenius’s library officially came to Cambridge University Library in June 1632. Abraham Whelock (1593–1653), the University Librarian and Cambridge’s first Professor of Arabic, instructed Jonathan Pindar to compile a handlist of the collection. Pindar’s efforts were recorded in the first three leaves of the University Library's Book of Benefactors, or donors. Erpenius’s collection is described as the Duke’s Library.
