Sinclair's Early Innovation

Clive Sinclair’s early career was marked by a passion for miniaturisation, innovative design and affordability in consumer electronics. In the 1960s and 70s, through his companies Sinclair Radionics and later Science of Cambridge, he brought a wave of innovation to market. These included sleek scientific and pocket calculators, and timekeeping devices including the Microquartz car clock, digital watch kits, and the stylish White Watch.

Objects such as his Pocket TV cemented his reputation as a disruptor. These projects laid the groundwork for Sinclair’s more famous breakthroughs in computing, culminating in the ZX Spectrum. His vision reshaped everyday electronics for a generation, but he never had the business acumen of other electronics pioneers of the period.
